30 Day Anime Challenge - Favorite Fighting Anime
King Arthur, Alexander the Great, Gilgamesh, Lancelot...some of histories greatest heroes fighting to the death...it's a recipe for awesomeness!!
There are actually tons of anime with great fight scenes and epic battles, and I might just be choosing Fate/Zero since it's a series that I recently finished last month, but I honestly think that this is probably one of my favorite fighting anime that I've seen so far. Not only are the fight scenes incredible and bring you to the edge of your seat, but the emotion and story behind each duel is what make Fate/Zero one of the best fighting anime.
Fate/Zero does a great job at not just presenting beautifully designed characters who are appropriate representations of their respective heroes, but also giving each character a human backstory that gives the audience a reason to root for them or, in some cases *cough* Caster *cough* desperately hope that they lose. Each of the heroes in Fate/Zero has their own ideologies and goals that drive them to fight and whether you agree with them are not, you still understand why each hero is fighting.
Each fight is also beautifully animated. Heroes are lightning fast and devastatingly powerful, but the fights almost look like graceful dances. Even the sporadic and violent movements of a character like Berserker are amazing to behold.
But as easy as it is to get lost in the spectacle of the battles in Fate/Zero, you are immediately dragged back into the story as the fight comes to an end and someone wins and another loses. There were moments when a character that I loved had won and survived and I was in shock and saddened for the loser. The fights in Fate/Zero can quickly go from being a breathtaking performance to a moment of heartbreak.
