Disappointment is a Part of Being a Fan
Sometimes things don't end the way you want them to...
If you're a fan of Game of Thrones or just someone who has been on the internet this past week, you have probably seen that some fans are not happy with the final season of the popular fantasy series. There is actually a petition demanding that HBO remake the final season with "competent writers". I will admit that I am a Game of Thrones fan who is disappointed with the way the show is turning out...but I also think that this petition and some of the outrage is ridiculous.
I love comic books, I love movies, and I obviously love anime. There are many times where stories in these mediums have disappointed me. Darling in the Franxx was one of the biggest anime of last year and I remember there was a point where fans were ready to call it one of the best anime of all time. As Darling in the Franxx came to a close, a lot of those fans were disappointed with what seemed like a rushed and ridiculous ending.
If Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures announced that they were going to remake Darling in the Franxx with an entirely different ending, I'd be interested and probably a little excited. However, I do not demand that anyone remake the series just so I can be satisfied. Darling in the Franxx is not my story. I did not come up with any of the ideas behind it and I did not put any work into a single episode.
I may have my criticisms of Darling in the Franxx, but I am not entitled to an anime that is not my creation. If the creators of Darling in the Franxx ended the series exactly how they wanted to, then I hope they're happy with what they made. It wasn't my favorite anime, but it was a fun ride and I'll just move along to another promising anime.
Hanebado! was another anime from last year that seemed really promising in the beginning but was kind of a disappointment in the end. It wasn't what I wanted, but if the creators of the anime were happy with making a melodramatic sports anime that sometimes came across as a comedy, good for them. I may have been a little disappointed, but I moved on to another anime. My life did not fall apart because Hanebado! wasn't as good as I had hoped.
Now Game of Thrones is based off of the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. The writers of the TV show are actually writing their own ending to the series since Martin hasn't finished writing the last book. So maybe there is a chance for Game of Thrones to get remade in the future with a more faithful adaptation, like how Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was a remake of the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, but was closer to the original story from the manga.
I do not think that fans have any right to demand the show be remade right away. It sounds like spoiled brats who think that everything needs to go their way at a moment's notice. I don't mind fans complaining or making harsh critiques, but I don't like forcing writers and artists to make their work fit the demands of angry fans. If you're not happy with Game of Thrones, or any fictional story, either stop watching/reading, or write fanfiction...or just do what I do and watch while shaking your head with disapproval.
